Somebody up there must like me after all
Just the other day in an email to “T” I was lamenting the sorry state of my music-listening possibilities, and mentioned being envious of his iPod. See, all I’ve got is this totally cheap-o bargain-basement mp3 player that only works when it feels like it. He wrote back suggesting that I take up a collection here on the site to generate money for an iPod. I was touched by his suggestion, but asking for donations would make me feel like a total jerk unless I was selflessly and at great personal cost providing a truly useful public service.
Turns out that a collection wouldn’t have been necessary anyway. A couple of days ago I entered a piece of writing in a group writing project over at ProBlogger.net. The post was for my English learning website (think I’m passionate about wah pedals? Hah! You’ve never seen me in full-on Grammar-Goddess mode).
I entered the group writing project mainly to get over my shyness about sharing my writing with other people. There were prizes to be awarded (lottery style), but that didn’t even enter into the equation for me. So imagine my surprise when I checked my mail this morning and saw a mail from Darren Rowse, the ProBlogger Grand Poobah himself, announcing that I’d won a prize. It’s a choice of a week’s vacation in a luxury villa on the Costa Del Sol, or a video iPod. Because I avoid at all costs exposure to that evil hot thing in the sky, it’s sure not a hard choice! I’m not even sure what a video iPod actually is or does, but it’s got to be better than my $9.99 no-name mp3 player.
Last time I won a prize I was 8 years old. It was a flashlight I won in a lottery at a Girl scout BBQ. That was pretty darn sweet, but this is better.

Hi Lori,
See, all things come to you, congratulations!!!!
Have fun with it.
Hugs, Gwen
I’m pondering writing a mail to “L” about how envious I am of her Video Ipod.
The Video iPod is the summum of iPod. If any mp3 player would be a Japanese car and the iPod would a Volvo then the iPod Video would be a Maybach.
Sooo … what are you going to do with that cheap-o bargain-basement MP3 player
That’s really amazing! And now I am SOOO happy for you
*smiles*
You made definitely a good choice, because you can better make music at your ‘holidays’ in Europe and Mexico…
And see, you write seriously good stories!
Congratulations again and take care,
Robbo
Yaaay!! Good for you!
(Where’s the banana smiley when you need it ;))
Thanks very much Robbo, but I didn’t win on the merits of my entry, brilliant though it was ;-). They just threw all our names in a hat and picked the winners that way.
Ah I see, but you still deserve this luck after all those years. I wish you a lot of fun with it.
Have a nice weekend,
Robbo
“Play it loud”, but don’t blast your ears out
Congrats, that’s great !! I won a flashlight too. It was in a hula hoop contest when I was in the cub scouts. I think it’s the only thing I ever won. An ipod is a much better prize
Yes somebody up there, and a whole lot of people down here too!
Hello Lori!! Well done on the Ipod!! you should auction off your bargain mp3 player and watch the Soppies go mad for it. hehe
I have to say I do like your new blog. It’s a bit spiffy. and I do like the pink…
And I don’t like the big hot thing in the sky either
Got any room up there for me?
“Because I avoid at all costs exposure to that evil hot thing in the sky”
And you’re going to Mexico??
They did tell you it’s usually a lot sunnier there than in Sweden right?
That’s probably why she flies back so soon after the gig… Though I think it would be awesome to discover Mexican’s fantastic nature and things like visiting Marcela’s and Millán’s home for example…
Whoo, just 3 weeks left
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone! It had been a REALLY rough couple of weeks, so it was really nice to have some good luck come down the pipeline.
What to do with the old mp3 player? I’ll probably just use it for rainy-day exercising, as a memory stick, or just give it away to someone.
As for sightseeing and visiting in Mexico, there won’t be time for me to do that this time. Some of the others will be spending more time, though. Plenty of time to sample tequila and tacos…
It will probably be much warmer there than here (I’m trying not to think about it…)
