So far, so good
Posting from our tour manager’s laptop, from the hotel room in Mexico City.
Everyone’s arrived safely after more-or-less uneventful trips. It feels great to see everyone again! They had all gone to a signing session somewhere, but my flight didn’t arrive in time enough for me to join them. Phillip (from the band Horus, and a regular on the Ayreon mailing list) was there with a Pinkie Respect t-shirt for me (which I sooooo am wearing now!). That was so awesome, Phillip; if you’re reading this, thanks so much!
Arjen was just in here telling me about his flight – apparently he had to stand up most of the time, because it’s just too uncomfortable for him to sit in the horrible airplane chairs. I’m not all that tall, and even so my knees were pushed up against the back of the seat in front of me. Can’t imagine what it must be like for someone of Arjen’s height. Luckily, the flight attendants were nice and he got to sit for a while in the special flight attendant’s chair in the back of the plane.
I have a sore throat and I cut one of my “guitar fingers” really bad (it’s actually a paper cut from my train ticket, but it goes all the way down to the meat of my finger — ugh). I tried to play a bit with the bad finger, and can manage, but it pulls the cut open so it starts bleeding. Hopefully it will be healed enough by tomorrow to not cause any problems!
OK, dinner time! I hope it really is true that it’s OK to drink the water here, because it’ll be a really “eventful” gig if it isn’t!

I miss you
Se you in a few hours
So close, yet so far! Mexico is so lucky to get you all, hope your finger-throat-dinner work out well for you, and watch out for the red hot salsa, it can feel like lava!
take good care of you
Tony
Here’s hoping your finger heals in time! Try to spare it until then.
I am more than lucky with my height when flying budget airlines!
Wishing you an extroardinary and not so eventful gig!
Try to keep it clean over there (hahahhaah)
Make metal
hugs,
Gwen
When the water isn’t drinkable we will finally get those toiletstories, right?! Pass this time…;-)
Have a great gig !
Greetz Taz
Hi all,
So far, still so good! Everyone is still healthy (we are all drinking bottled water, just in case) and I think most of us had good nights’ sleep last night (whether chemically induced or natural). I know I slept more last night than I have in the past couple of months!
We were supposed to be picked up from the hotel at 11.00, but apparently there is some delay and they won’t be fetching us until almost 13.00. So I’m taking advantage of the down time to thank you all for your supportive comments!
I heard that Arjen and I will have Boogie dual Rectifiers as power amps — that should be interesting! And supposedly wireless systems have been arranged for us too; I hope that we won’t be having any Spinal Tap experiences — like having one of us pick up some weird Mexican footbal broadcast in the middle of, say, Nostalgia…
Thanks again for all your nice comments — I’ll pass them on to the band!
Lorinator (hopefully not Clumsinator until AFTER the show) out
Good luck Lori!
Dear Lori;
You are really great, fantastic, wonderfull…
[...] Pd: Fue con “(casi) toda la banda” ya que Lori arribo tarde a México y pues llego directo al hotel. Ella misma lo dice. [...]
Woohoo! Mesa’s! They’re probably the best poweramps you can have. Very very very very very clean! Ideal for pod-usage.
Break a leg, preferably not your own!
Good luck Lori! (And the others, of course!)
I’m sure you’ll have the time of your life
I hope you have a great show, Lori. I wish I could be there. And that scene in ‘Spinal Tap’ is a classic.
Good luck to the band ; I wish I were there !!!!!!!
By now the show will be over and everything but hey I hoep it went great and that your finger had healed in time and everything
I second Maarten’s post. I hope all went clear and fine…
What a story about Arjen. The trip to Mexico is definitely not a short one…
Have a save flight back home, Lorinator
Still no news from the mexican gig?
Should we dispatch the rescue team now?
Yeah it’s quiet from the swedish front.. I hope they didnt total Lori by pouring too much mexican booze into her 0o
Maybe they are so tired, they fell asleep on the plane, who knows where the gang is now
the might be celebrating Marcela’s birhtday, today
jep
Yeah but didnt Lori plan on flying in and then flying back the next day? The dutch guys probably stayed for the birthday indeed
calling Lori, are you there?
MEXICAN GIG AWESOME!!!
The place called “Flying Circus” is an old movie theatre used now for concerts of alternative music, but the ambiance is excellent.
Arjen called us “The Best Fu**ing audience”. Many Bands that come to Mexico after their first time they come back regularly. We’re a very giving croud, but you need to experience it.
After the band played during the singing you could barely hear Loris voice. She’s more astunishing in person. I was pretty impressed by her.
And do not worry guys if you can’t drink the water, there’s always our best bears available.
OOps my mistake. I mean BEER at the end, not BEARS, Silly me.
Hi all — yes, I’m home again but I got in late at night had to work all day the very next day (today). In fact, I’m posting this from work.
Don’t worry, I’ve got a big update coming your way later tonight.
thanks Lori, we’re all just glad you had a good time and got back safe and sound.
as you can read, worry started to reign, hahahhahhah
hugs,
Gwen
hahahah ok ok, I can breadth now.
I also found some interesting reviews in spansih about the gig. But I can’t find any pictures though :-/
worry?? more like my overactive imagination
Weebee Lorinator!!
That’s what I figured. Then I thought “no, she can’t be off to work after arriving late at night” … But you did. Kudo’s to you. You’ve got more energy than a crate of Red Bull.
Looking forward to the full report one of these days. Take care!
Good to know that you get back home safely. No major problems or “King”-size stories this time?
I’m very curious to your next update…
Try to relax for a moment, and take care,
Robbo
Hi Lori!
I´m glad you liked it. I was worried about your size, cause i had never seen you live before and next to arjen everybody looks small, but i think i just got the correct one , right?
cheers!!
Phillip
Hi all, this time I’m comin’ atcha from my lunch break. Phillip, the shirt fits perfectly, so you were a good guesser!
Robbo, sorry — this time no really king-sized stories; it was such a short trip. There are some kind of funny little things, though. I’ll have to get another post ready before I forget everything.
To all who were there at CV, thanks for making us feel so welcome. It was a really great crowd, and I had a lot of fun at the meet-n-greet. No Tequila for me, though. When I drink hard alcohol, bad things happen. So I stick to wine these days.
We will need pics of that shirt to judge the size!
I actually meant the stories you told us last time, about the King of Sweden… Nothing like that happened this time?
Sov gott,
Rob
See, if I was the rest of the band, I would not be so worried about the radio frequancies on the wireless systems… but more so you one day grabbing Marcela’s Violin and reinacting the classical “solos” scene from spinal tap =P
Actually, radio frequencies on wireless systems can cause a lot of headaches. It’s no fun playing on a big festival and picking up the guy on the other stage.
Other problem could be when you take your wireless to a different continent. Because the frequencies you use are bound to a region (e.g. the US and Europe have different frequencies released for use with these systems) you may pick up radio amateurs on when taking a wireless system from the U.S. to Europe.
JoeJoe, belive me: I’ve thought about the violin thing. Unaccompanied guitar solos are totally not my bag, though. Never have been. But if I did do one, the temptation to use the violin would be too…darn….much….
Kristof, that’s the thing that scares me most about wireless systems: the potential for Tap-like interference. Hearing Mexican futból commentators blasting through my cabinet in the middle of, say, Nostalgia or something. ‘Twould kind a kill the mood….
Oh, I never said it would be un unaccompanied guitar solo =P. I think Nostelga would sound great with a true Spinal Tap guitar solo!
Well…. maybe not… but it wouldn’t stop it from being just as funny as the original Tap moment!
