Also, I hope you havnt been working too hard that you havn’t had time for music. A healthy balanced life is the key to success…. or at least thats what I read in a magazine….

I’ve got a Tascam US-144 which has midi-ports. It’s working wonders for me right now. Not a solution, but definitely a good work-around.

Plug in and turn the Pod on (into the back connection)

Go into the control panel

Go to “Sounds and Audio Devices”

Click on the “audio” tab

Under “midi music play back” there will be a drop down menu.

It should have “microsoft GS wave table SW synth”

It should also have a second option, which will be something like “Pod” “Line 6″ “external device”
whatever it is, select that.

Now try it.

If this fails to work, then Im all out of ideas.

I do however know, with soundblaster type sound cards it will have more than one midi driver. It will always default to the internal synth, not the external MIDI port.
If your running a diffrent windows let me know which one, and Ill see what I can come up with.

I am pretty sure I’ve tried every kind of preferences that the Line6 Edit has to offer, and tried all of the available ports. But no matter what I try when I have the midi cables plugged into the rear MIDI ports, I get a message saying that there’s nothing connected. I’d have to try it again to tell you the exact text of the error message. Anyway, I’ve got it working through the front MIDI ports now, so that’s something!

Does your pod not connect via USB? Thats how I connect mine, makes it alot more hassel free, and I have have both my Midi devices and Pod plugged in at the same time (granted I also use a Digi design M box as my midi device…) but the principal is the same.

As for work, I do the kind of consulting work where there are no clear criteria for what is considered “a good job,” let alone a “kick ass” job. I only get paid for contact hours with the clients, which often doesn’t even come close to covering the hourse I need to put in behind the scenes to make them happy. So I just work work work until I figure there’s nothing more that is humanly possible (for me!) to do, or until I burn out, whichever comes first.

I could probably “get by” by doing less, but then my guilty conscience would keep me awake at night.

don’t know if that MIDI issue is solved. But I had a related problem two years ago with a digitech machine. Couldn’t get it work with a Y-cable at the joystick-port. I just bought another sound card and everything went fine (if you’re having an expensive soundcard, maybe a MIDI/Firewire-interface is an option).

BTW: “13-hour day” – don’t you think it’s a modern art of slavery? *kidding* What are you doing for a living? Well, there are plenty folks without a job and I’m one of those… In my earlier days I worked hard six days a week (bricklayer, you know?) and the guitars often tended to stay alone. Now I have much time (read: many, many, many time) but no incentive. Strange.

I connect the “in” on the cable to the “out” of the Pod. Tried it the other way just in case – no joy.

Have not tried to switch cables, but the cable works for the keyboard, so it can’t be broken. It’s one of those Y-cables with a joystick-type connector on the computer end, and two normal MIDI connectors on the device end.

In all my experiments, I’ve only connected to one port at a time.

The Pod is set to MIDI channel 1 according to the FM. I have R’d the FM too

The only thing I haven’t tried is booting with the stuff connected. Will give that a try. Will also try new cables just in case.

Worst case scenario I can post a Q on the Line6 forum and see if anyone bites.
