Do I have a dirty mind, or are the folks at Swedish Purina having a laugh?
Pussi catfood’s marketing campaigns are rife with double entendres. A few years ago Purina ran a Pussi catfood promotion on Swedish TV, in which people could send in a number of Pussi labels and receive a free Pussi alarm clock. I remember the bubbly female voice-over, urging people to send in their labels:
“Now you can wake up with Pussi every morning!”
Please say it’s not just me…
On the Pussi website (www.pussi.nu) the menu sections read (translated to English):
Who is Pussi?
Pussi’s favorite food
Pussi’s fun stuff And finally,
Your Pussi
*snort*
On the website there is also a game, the instructions of which read “Click on Pussi’s mouse and have fun!” Innocent enough unless you know that “mouse” in Swedish (mus) is a cute euphemism for a woman’s private parts.
My playful side hopes that it’s not just my dirty mind, and that Purina knows very well what they are doing. Can you imagine being in the workgroup tasked with coming up with new Pussi campaigns? I wonder if they’re hiring…

Though for them, it’s the trick about how far they can go and to get some reward (that people talk about it) through those double-meanings. This one goes quite far, but they definitely reached their target with this ‘Erotic catfood’, I guess…

We have a chain of supermarkets over here called “Richie’s” who donate a lot of their profit back to the community. Their slogan is “Richie’s - Where the community benefits”.
They soon opened up liqueur stores as well, with the slogan “Richie’s liqueur - Where the community benefits”
I think at times, people just don’t think through what the advertising’s second meaning could be…. hehe

Juan, I have searched for a photo of a pussi väckarklocka but haven’t found one. Pussi is never on my shopping list (I don’t have a cat) so I couldn’t send away for one during the campaign.
