ABOUT TIME! I totally agree. I’ve always wondered what type of people feel the urge to write in these types of derogatory, useless comments about people or things they know shit all about. Is it just that they have an urge to speak their mind, or the satisfaction they get from knowing people get upset from their comments? Small people who get nothing more out of life. One probably should feel sorry for them instead.

A friend of mine went on this big tour of Australia/New Zealand etc. with his girlfriend earlier this year, and they put up a blog so that we could keep track of what they were up to. “Anonymous” posted a mean comment about one of the pictures, to which someone else replied:

“So help me I just love anonymous jibes from cyberspace. I find the people behind them the sexiest and most attractive in the world. I wish one of them was my boyfriend. It would be so reassuring to know if i was ever attacked or insulted in the street he would later send them a secret, cutting, electronic remark that would scar the perpetrators for life.

A girl can dream.”

The people that post scurrilous comments often have what I like to call ‘internet courage’. It quickly eveaporates like a drunk’s courage when they sober up, or in this case log off. I’m sure it would be fascinating to read a psychological report on what makes people do this sort of thing. Regardless of Psychology 101, these types of comments defintely don’t belong, and I’m happy to see organizations taking steps to end them.
