Blabbermouth finally gets a clue

From Blabbermouth.net

"We are in the process of cleaning up the countless abusive, obscene, defamatory, racist, homophobic and threatening comments that have been posted on this site since the 'comments' feature was implemented back in early 2002. That also means that anyone posting such comments going forward will be immediately and permanently banned."

All I can say is IT’S ABOUT FREAKIN’ TIME.

But I hope the absence of “MISOGYNISTIC” from their list of abusive qualities above is just a careless oversight, and that misogynistic comments will be culled as well (and the perpetrators drawn and quartered). Then maybe female musicians can get some news posted about them without having to endure/ignore a free-for-all of invasive sexual insults and other abusive comments. (Newsflash to lowest-common-denominator Blabbermouth boneheads: “I’d pee in her butt” is not something most women are likely to take as a compliment.)

The only catch is that lamebrain commenters will now have to actually find something intelligent or worthwhile to say, which is most likely a Herculean task beyond the intellectual capacities of most of these sad little behind-pseudonym-hiding LOSERS. So they will probably just curl up and die a slow death somewhere, wallowing in their own negativity and pathological need to publicly bash others to make themselves feel better about their unfulfilling lives. I think we can survive without them.

I am really pleased about Blabbermouth’s new policy. Now maybe I can enjoy reading news about my fellow female musicians without depressing reminders of the rampant misogyny that still reigns in our society.

As someone who’s never understood why so many people feel the need to regale the world with their pathetic little opinions about artists they don’t like (jeez, why the heck do they even bother to READ articles about artists they don’t like?), as someone who had stopped reading Blabbermouth BECAUSE of the crap comments, all I can do is applaud Blabbermouth for taking this initiative.

Hi Lori,

I will never understand why people have to bad mouth other people.
I have a little rule of my own, everything you do comes back to you 3 times, guess that can also apply to everything you say about another person.
Everybody is allowed their own opinion, but stay human about it.
nobody is perfect

as always,hugs
Gwen

Mmm last time I checked metal was only about the music (or at least to me it is). Plus in a “mostly guys” environment like metal, it’s always refreshing to see a girl step in to a stage!

The question is why did Blabbermouth waited so long to stop this. Better late than never I guess…

Cheer up Lori!

I really agree with your comment, Gwen.
And I also know that rule :-)

I don’t have any experience with it, as I don’t know Blabbermouth. But I can imagine that it sucks bigtime.

Hugs,
Rob

The people that post scurrilous comments often have what I like to call ‘internet courage’. It quickly eveaporates like a drunk’s courage when they sober up, or in this case log off. I’m sure it would be fascinating to read a psychological report on what makes people do this sort of thing. Regardless of Psychology 101, these types of comments defintely don’t belong, and I’m happy to see organizations taking steps to end them.

A friend of mine went on this big tour of Australia/New Zealand etc. with his girlfriend earlier this year, and they put up a blog so that we could keep track of what they were up to. “Anonymous” posted a mean comment about one of the pictures, to which someone else replied:

“So help me I just love anonymous jibes from cyberspace. I find the people behind them the sexiest and most attractive in the world. I wish one of them was my boyfriend. It would be so reassuring to know if i was ever attacked or insulted in the street he would later send them a secret, cutting, electronic remark that would scar the perpetrators for life.

A girl can dream.”

I think if you want to comment about someone anyway, you are a coward for not giving your name.
Nobody’s perfect anyway, which is a good thing.
Imagine a world with only perfect people….boring.

ABOUT TIME! I totally agree. I’ve always wondered what type of people feel the urge to write in these types of derogatory, useless comments about people or things they know shit all about. Is it just that they have an urge to speak their mind, or the satisfaction they get from knowing people get upset from their comments? Small people who get nothing more out of life. One probably should feel sorry for them instead.

Amonyn… Anomyn… Anymo… crap! Janne Stark

““I’d pee in her buttâ€? is not something most women are likely to take as a compliment.”
That explains a lot =(

Kidding, of course.
